Power Automate is the glue in the Microsoft stack that makes ideas become actual workflows in minutes. You describe what you want (in Norwegian), Copilot suggests a flow, and you click it into place. It works because it's tightly connected to Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive and Dynamics, and because you can mix classic cloud flows with desktop flows to automate legacy systems too.
Where users already are: Most Norwegian companies live in Teams/Outlook. Power Automate fits right into everyday life and makes IT an enabler, not a bottleneck. Standardized platform, logging and governance means IT avoids ad-hoc scripts and shadow IT.
What you need to get started
Microsoft 365 account and access to Power Platform. Basic understanding of business processes recommended.
What you actually get from Microsoft Power Automate
We recommend Microsoft Power Automate because it delivers exactly what matters for Norwegian companies: seamless automation with the tools you already use every day.
- Tight integration with Microsoft ecosystem – automate directly between Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Excel and other tools you use daily
- Security and compliance in place – builds on Microsoft's security platform with same standards as the rest of Office 365
- Simple for end users – no new logins or systems to learn, everything happens within tools they know
- Centralized administration – IT department maintains control and overview of all automations through familiar Microsoft tools
Our experience: Microsoft Power Automate provides most value when you're already invested in the Microsoft ecosystem and want to automate without introducing new security risks.
When should you choose Microsoft Power Automate, and when should you look at something else?
Our recommendation: Power Automate is best when you already use Microsoft 365/Dynamics, need Teams integration, want built-in AI and RPA, and care about governance/compliance. Make.com is strong on visual building and complex scenarios, flexible and EU-friendly. Zapier is easiest for typical web apps and quick start.
Choose Power Automate when you:
- Already use Microsoft 365/Dynamics
- Need Teams integration and RPA
- Care about governance and compliance
Consider other tools if:
- Not in Microsoft ecosystem
- Need visual complexity
- Simple web app connections
- Quick start without governance
Rule of thumb
Already heavily in Microsoft? Choose Power Automate. Not in Microsoft and need more freedom/complexity? Choose Make. Need just quick connection between two-three web apps? Zapier.
Common pitfalls
- Too much on first attempt. Start narrow, measure effect, build further.
- Unclear owners. Each flow must have a process owner (business) and a technical maintainer (IT).
- No governance. Set DLP rules, environments and naming standards before things spread.
- AI without framework. Use templates for tone/language, and make human-in-the-loop standard for outgoing customer messages.
Recommended workflow
- Start with one concrete user journey. Write three to five sentences about who, what goal, and what situation.
- Get a first prototype the same day. Don't wait for "the right design"—get something clickable right away.
- Run mini-tests with 3-5 people. Test immediately. It certainly won't be the final solution, but it provides enormous value to get new eyes on the problem, see where they get stuck, and what they think. Only note findings that actually affect decisions.
- Iterate in small steps and often. In Power Automate, iterations are cheap—take advantage of that.
- Decision every week. Either: continue, adjust direction, or put the idea in the backlog. The point is progression, not decoration.
Investment and costs
For most Norwegian companies with Microsoft 365 Enterprise licenses, basic Power Automate features are already included. This means you can start with automation without extra costs for many common use cases.
Important to know
If you're unsure what's included in your company's Microsoft license, contact your Microsoft partner. They can give you an accurate overview of which Power Automate features you already have access to.
Pricing structure for extended features
| Plan | Price | Included credits |
|---|---|---|
| Included with M365 | Already included | Basic flows and standard connectors |
| Power Automate Premium | Per user/month | Premium connectors, AI Builder, desktop automation |
| Power Automate Process | $150/bot/month | For unattended automation and high performance |
Pro tip
Many Norwegian companies discover they already have access to most of what they need through their existing Microsoft licenses.
